With the 2024-2025 pro season coming to a close, it’s time for athletes and fans alike to set their sights on this summer’s Volleyball Nations League tournament. The highly anticipated USA women’s roster was released on May 8th, offering fans a first glimpse into the mind of new head coach Erik Sullivan.
The wide roster of 30 athletes consists of three Olympians, 11 NCAA national champions, and two current NCAA athletes. Here’s a look into the background of each player, categorized by position.
Jordyn Poulter
One of the only 2024 Olympians who isn’t taking a break this summer, Poulter has been a mainstay of the national team since 2018. She was the starting setter for Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she helped the team win its first-ever gold medal and was named Best Setter of the tournament. More recently, she won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics before heading back to the states to play for LOVB Salt Lake’s inaugural team.
Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres
Ka’aha’aina-Torres started her college career at Utah before transferring to Texas in 2021. In 2022, she led the team to its first national championship in a decade. She played professionally in Puerto Rico and France before returning to Austin to play for the city’s inaugural LOVB team, with whom she won the first-ever league championship. This VNL will be her debut with the senior national team.
Jenna Gray
A three-time national champion with Stanford, Jenna Gray has played in Germany, France, and Brazil since graduating. She has won gold in several professional tournaments, including the 2021 German League and 2023 South American Club Championship. Gray has played with Team USA at multiple tournaments, most notably making an appearance during the first week of the 2022 VNL.
Ella May Powell
A University of Washington standout and two-time best Pac-12 setter, Powell graduated after leading the Huskies to their first NCAA semifinals appearance in seven years. She’s spent her professional career playing in France, where she most recently won the French Supercup with Neptunes de Nantes. She played for the U19 USA team and at the 2024 Pan American Cup, and this will be her first VNL.
Rachel Fairbanks
The youngest of the selected setters, Fairbanks graduated from Pitt this past year. She led her team to four straight Final Four appearances and was named a first-team All-American in 2023 and 2024. After leaving Pitt, she went straight to LOVB Atlanta where she helped her team stay at the top of the standings for the majority of the season. She’s played with the U21 National Team, but this is her debut with the senior team.
Avery Skinner
A Paris 2024 silver medalist, Skinner won a national championship at Kentucky before finishing her college career at Baylor. She has played professionally for in France and Italy. Her debut with the senior national team came in 2022, when she was named Best Spiker and Best Scorer at the 2022 Pan American Cup.
Ali Frantti
A national champion with Penn State in 2014, Frantti debuted with the senior national team at the 2022 VNL and has been on the wide roster every year since. She has played professionally in Poland, Italy, and most recently Turkey, where she placed first in the Turkish league with Vakifbank.
Khalia Lanier
As a high school senior, Lanier was named the 2016 National Gatorade Player of the Year. She was named a first-team All-American while at USC, where she has the second highest number of kills in program history (2,025). Lanier has spent the majority of her pro career playing in Italy, where she most recently won the Champions League and Club World Championship with Imoco Volley Conegliano.
Roni Jones-Perry
After leading BYU to a final four appearance and being named a first-team All-American, Jones-Perry played professionally in several countries, including Italy, Poland, and Brazil. In 2024, she returned to the United States to play for LOVB Salt Lake, where she was the team’s leading scorer. Her debut with the senior national team came in 2019, and she played for Team USA during the first week of the 2023 VNL.
McKenzie Adams
Despite a prolific professional career overseas, Adams has not made an appearance with Team USA until now. After becoming the first ever All-American for University of Texas at San Antonio, Adams played extensively in Puerto Rico, Germany, Italy, and Turkey. Most recently, she played for LOVB Atlanta and was one of the team’s top scorers.
Logan Eggleston
The 2022 National Player of the Year and national champion with Texas is making her VNL debut this summer. She launched her pro career in Turkey before coming back to Austin to play for the city’s LOVB team, with whom she won the league’s first-ever championship. Eggleston has played with Team USA before and was part of the gold-medal winning USA team at the 2023 NORCECA Final Six.
Sarah Franklin
Franklin began her college career at Michigan State before transferring to Wisconsin, where she was named the 2023 National Player of the Year and two-time Big Ten Player of the Year (2023, 2024). She began her professional career with LOVB Madison, for whom she was the team’s second-highest scorer. Franklin earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2024 NORCECA Final Six.
Danielle Cuttino
Cuttino has been a member of the senior national team since 2019, when she won gold at the Pan American Cup. She’s played professionally in Japan, Brazil, and Italy, and most recently returned to the US to play with LOVB Atlanta, where she was the team’s top scorer. This will be her fourth VNL.
Stephanie Samedy
A Minnesota grad and two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, Samedy has been a member of the senior national team since 2020. She’s played professionally in Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Japan, and also helped the Omaha Supernovas win the first ever Pro Volleyball Federation championship.
Taylor Mims
A Washington State grad and third-team All-American, Mims has played professionally in Spain, France, and Italy. Most recently, she won the CEV Cup with the Italian club Novara. With team USA, she won gold at the 2023 Norceca Final Six and bronze at the 2023 Pan American Cup. This will be her first VNL.
Madisen Skinner
One of the biggest names to come out of the NCAA in recent years, the three-time national champion is returning to the senior national team after playing at the VNL last summer, where she was the leading scorer in Team USA’s match against Thailand. She started her professional career with LOVB Austin, where she led the team to win the league’s first-ever championship.
Olivia Babcock
Coming off of her second year at Pitt, Babcock has established herself as one of the best players currently in the NCAA. She was named the AVCA National Player of the Year in 2024 after leading top-ranked Pitt to the final four. For the national team, Babcock won gold with the U19 team at the 2023 Pan American Cup and was part of the silver medal team at last year’s NORCECA Final Six.
Logan Lednicky
A second-team All-American and rising senior at Texas A&M, Lednicky has been a star player for the Aggies. In the 2024 NCAA tournament, she led her team to a near-upset of Wisconsin in the round of 16. She has trained with the U21 National team and the 2024 Collegiate National Team.
Dana Rettke
Even before winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, the 6’8″ Wisconsin star made headlines for being the first-ever five-time AVCA First-Team All-American. After winning a national championship with the Badgers in 2021, she launched her professional career in Italy and has since played in Turkey. Her VNL debut came in 2019, where she earned a gold medal with the team.
Molly McCage
A Texas grad, McCage won a national championship in 2012. She has played professionally in Germany as well as in all three American leagues: Athletes Unlimited, Pro Volleyball Federation (Vegas Thrill), and League One Volleyball (LOVB Austin). She won LOVB’s first-ever championship and has medaled at several tournaments with Team USA.
Brionne Butler
Another Texas alumnus, Butler has played with the senior national team since 2019, when she was part of the gold medal-winning team at the Pan American Cup. She has played professionally in four different countries, including Italy, Brazil, and most recently Japan. Butler has been a part of every VNL roster since 2022.
Amber Igiede
After being named the 2022 Big West Player of the Year, Igiede graduated from the University of Hawai’i and started her pro career in Italy before returning to the United States to play for LOVB Houston. She debuted with the national team at the 2024 Pan American Cup, but this will be her first VNL.
Anna Dodson
A UCLA grad and 2023 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, Dodson debuted professionally in Italy’s A1 league. In 2023, she was one of four Pac-12 athletes selected to the Collegiate National Team, earning her the opportunity to train alongside the senior team.
Asjia O’Neal
Known to fans as the “Slide Queen,” O’Neal is a two-time national champion with Texas. After becoming the Longhorns’ all-time blocks leader, O’Neal was selected as the #1 overall pick in the first-ever Pro Volleyball Federation draft. She signed with the Columbus Fury before joining LOVB Austin, where she won the league’s first-ever championship. This will be her third VNL.
Tia Jimerson
Jimerson played for Ohio University, where she was named the MAC Player of the Year in 2019. She played internationally in Hungary, Portugal, and Germany before coming to her home state of Georgia to play for LOVB Atlanta. She won silver with Team USA at the 2024 Pan American Cup.
Serena Gray
A graduate of Pitt, Gray played in France for a year before coming back to the United States to play for LOVB Salt Lake. She’s appeared in many tournaments with Team USA, including the Pan American Cup and NORCECA Final Six.
Lexi Rodriguez
The iconic Husker and fan favorite is making her VNL debut. After establishing herself as Nebraska’s all-time digs leader, Rodriguez began her professional career with LOVB Omaha. She has played for Team USA at multiple age group tournaments, and won a silver medal at the 2024 NORCECA Final Six.
Lauren Briseño
A Baylor grad, Briseño won gold with USA at the U21 Pan American Cup and was named Best Receiver. She has trained with the USA National Collegiate Team and was named an alternate for the team at the 2024 NORCECA Final Six.
Morgan Hentz
The three-time national champion with Stanford and sole resident of “Hentzville,” Hentz is no stranger to the national team. She made her VNL debut in 2022 and has been on the roster every year since. Professionally, she plays for Atlanta Vibe of the Pro Volleyball Federation, where she has twice been named Best Libero.
Zoe Jarvis
A national champion at Texas, Jarvis (formerly Fleck) has participated in several tournaments with Team USA, including multiple Pan American Cups and the 2024 VNL. She started her pro career in Germany before returning to Austin to play for the city’s LOVB team, with whom she won the first-ever league championship.
